My father's family emigrated to the US, settling in
the Kansas/Missouri area.
My (?)great-grandfather changed his surname because
he didn't like how close it sounded to something vulgar
in English, or so it has been told.
I wanted to know if there are any Croatian surnames
beginning with "L", as that I might be able to phonetically
try to figure out what it was? |

Both of my grandparents on my fathers side of the family
came from Mrkopalj. My grandfathers name was Jerome
Lipovac, and he married my grandmother whoes name was
Regina Starcevich. Both came from large families and
lived in Iowa.

Lipovac and he married Regina Starcevic. Would love
to hear from any relatives from this line especially
the "Mary Anne" who posted an inquiry on the

To my fellow Croatians:
My name is Oscar Volani Lisica, age 63. I was born in
Rijeka, Croatia and after World War II, my father Victor
Volani, widowed to my mother Simeona (Simica) Lisica
- my brother Victor, Jr. Volani Lisica, and myself emigrated
to South America (Caracas, Venezuela). I am now a resident
of the United States of America where I have a wife
Joyce, a daughter Veronica (30), married to William,
a grandson Anthony Vittorio (2) and also have a son
Oscar Volani, Jr. now (27).
For the first time after 53 years since I left Croatia,
I recently visited the place where I was born. I was
very excited to find out that after thinking I just
had a brother, I found out I still have a big family
in Bibinje, you can imagine my happiness!
The reason for writing this e-mail to my fellow Croatians
is that I am still looking for a cousin by the name
of RAFAELLO GAGIC LISICA now around (80). His mother
Rosa is my mother's sister. I was told he lives in USA
and has a son in the Army and maybe other family members.
If any of you know this person, I would appreciate any
information you can give me. You can e-mail a response.
In the meantime, I will keep with the extensive research
on the Internet.
Any information is greatly appreciated.

great grandfather Giorgio Loncaric and his brothers
Mateo and Nicolao came to Peru in South America in 1903,
I'm trying to find a way to get Giorgio's Birth certificate,
he was born in February 21st 1888.

Loncich, 26 February 1778 and named after his granfather.
Father, Steffano Loncich of Sibenik, was soldier in
Venetian army and posted in Corfu at time of birth.
Mother was Donna Teresa F. Consorte (or Corsorte) of
Damatia.
Possible brother (or other relative) to Antonio named
Biaggio Loncich of Dalmatia died and were buried in
Corfu in 1840.
