...Fak

Posted by: Maja Mikulicic on May 30, 2001
Name: Marko Fak
Location: Stari Laz

My great grandfather left the small village of Stari laz during the first world war, probably 1913. He left a pregnant wife behind, and his daughter, my grandmother, never knew her father. He never returned to Croatia, but he always helped his family finacially. He worked in the mines I think, and he got sick in America and died there, maybe in 1973. The name of his wife in Croatia was Karlina, and his daugter's name was Angelina. We always suspected he might have had another family in the States.
Maybe someone can help.

Name 1: Stanko Frketic
Name 2: Anka Zivko
Name 3: Mary Sladic Bura
Location: Nebretic, Croatia

I have no info about Stanko Frketic, my grandfather. 1st wife was Anka Zivko; 2nd wife was Mary Sladic Bura. There may have been a marriage before these two.

Ellis Island records show a Kata Frketic arriving 12/29/05 going to husband Stanko in Allegheny, PA.

I would like to know if Kata was the 1st wife. Also would like to know if Stanko had any brothers or sisters. I know of one brother, Anthony.

Dear James
I am just starting out to seek my relatives from Eastern Europe. My grandparents were Frank Michelitch 07/Apr.1893 and Pauline Michelitch 31/Jul.1896. I believe they were of Austria/Hungarian/Croatian background. I appreciate your information about Croatia. I hope to do as well as you have and share it with a relative I don't know as yet.
Happy New Year. Peace be with you.
Jean

...Francetic; Miller

Posted by: Letha Chunn-Mendivil on June 10, 2001

Name 1: Filcek (Philip) Francetic
Name 2: Peter and/or Apolonia Francetic
Location: Samobor

I am searching for a great-uncle by marriage, William John Miller, born Filcek (Philip) Francetic (or Miller). He was born in Samobor, Austro-Hungarian empire, on May 21, 1888. The year could be off by two to four years (1886 or 1884). He lived near Sveto Nedelja, Samobor, on Francetica Lane.
His father was Peter Francetic or Miller (could be the Croatian equivalent of Miller) and his mother was Apolonia.
He emigrated to the U.S.A. between 1902 and 1917, we think, through Ellis Island. In 1917 he married Claire Lucille Skipton, in Kasota, MN, USA. He had a brother Tom or Thom who came to the USA 2 to 3 years before him.
When he died, he lived in El Monte, CA, USA, in 1977.

When he came to the USA, we believe he changed his name from Francetic to Miller, but we are unsure. The only "facts" that we have I have stated above. He may also have changed his birth year to escape being drafted into the Austro-Hungarian army, although he served as a US doughboy in WWI.

His descendants live in Southern California. They are my cousins. His daughters, ages 81 and 78, would LOVE to "find" their father's roots before they die.
Please help us!
