...Sostar

Posted by: Bonita Camponi on February 26, 2002

Name: Sostar
Location: Sasice (??)

I am interested in my croatian ancestors. I looked at the Ellis island web site and found that my grandmother was from Sasice, Croatia. On her death certificate it has her fathers name as Andrew Sostar. Her mothers name is not on it. My grandmother came to America in 1914. She was born on 9-29-1899.
Let me know if you need any more info past 1914. Before that I have nothing.

Any help appreciated. Thanks

"Sasice", or rather "Nasice"?? Don't forget that those records were originally handwritten, thus names and/or spelling might well be incorrect - to my knowledge, there is no such place in Croatia; I have however found a person with your surname living in Nasice -
Vesna Sostar; I. Brlic-Mazuranic 3; Nasice 31500; Croatia
perhaps you could write and ask for info ..... alternatively, try the church
Evandjeoska Crkva; I. Mazuranica 17; 31500 Nasice; Croatia

I'm looking for relatives from Vinkovci, my grandfather lived there at Trg Matija Gupca. I heard that a part of the family moved to New Zealand or Australia. We live in the Netherlands. Can anyone tell me more about my relatives?

Name 1: Joseph Sostarich
Name 2: Draga Batusic
Location: Bistra (?), Croatia

I found Joseph Sostarich on Ellis Island.org and believe he is my great grandfather. He came to the US twice. Once in 1906 and went back to Croatia after his wife passed. He returned in 1920 and I believe was born in 1885. I have a record of a wife possibly named Mary. As I understand he was married twice. He had one son John (Ivan) Joseph.

There is also record of a relative named Maria in Bistra. I have not been able to find Bistra. The family is Catholic. I believe Draga Batusic was one wife.
Thank you in advance!!

...Sremec; Sremac

Posted by: Zoran Rupcic on December 20, 2001 - Sremec/Sremac from Hrv. Zagorje

Name: Sremec Marijan
Location: Zagreb, Zlatar, Hrv.Zagorje

Mr. Marijan Sremec (or Sremac) was a taxi driver in Zagreb in 1920's. He came from the area of Hrvatsko Zagorje to Zagreb around 1920. He is asumed to be killed in the WW2, but not sure.
Does anybody know about his birthplace, year of birth, did he have any sisters/brothers or got married (any children?) and when/how did he exactly die?
