Has anyone heard of that name. I am only going by some writing that my father left after he died. He worked for my father in Minn. I do remember that he said he was from Croatia. Spelling may be off.

...Rozich

Posted by: Nancy Rozich on April 26, 2002 - Ancestors from Croatia

Name 1: Nicola Rozich
Name 2: Anna Marianovich
Location: Hertz nagovna (? sp)

I am trying to find out if my grandfather Nicola Rozich possibly returned to Croatia around 1923-4 and married and had another family.

Apparently, he came from a town called hertz nagovna (? sp) and married my grandmother Anna Marianovich around 1912-13 and came to the US. They lived in Chicago, then Passadena, then West Frankfort. ( southern Illinois).

The family lost touch around 1923 when he divorced or maybe just left his family of 3 boys and 1 girl and my grandmother in W. Frankfort.

I don't even know where to begin my search, but want to learn anything I can about my father's side of the family. We have a photo of him with my grandmother and 2 of the boys. He was very handsome.

Any info would be of help and thanks for the time to respond to my letter.
Sincerely, Nancy Rozich Zeller

It is necessary for you to find out the exact location from where your grandparents originally came from before you can get any further - "hertz nagovna" doesn't ring a bell at all - herceg novi, hercegovina (??) ..... whereabouts do you think it should be, geographically?

The US immigration dept should have their place of birth (??)
Try browsing through the Ellis Island Records
Once you know the place, you could get in touch with the local church (we can help you with the addresses), where most records were kept in those days

For your research you might find some valuable pointers amongst the genealogical literature for beginners - take a look at our Genealogical Resources
BookStore

Meanwhile - how about posting that photograph here - we could do with some "handsome" pics, just to break the type-only monotony :-)

You probably descend from a very old, wealthy and powerful family - Click here for a reference as well as a photograph of one of the many villas in Rijeka (Pecine) belonging to the Ruzic family during the olden days
