Kostel - Slovenia or Croatia |
I have just recently begun my research on my wifes mother's
line.
They came to the US in the early 1900's. At that time,
the area was a part of Austria-Hungary. But the whole
family is Croatian.
What has me stumped is that they came from the town
of Kostel, Croatia, which I can find nothing on. There
is a Kostel Slovenia, which is on the border, but in
Slovenia, south of Kocevje.
My question: Was Kostel, Slovenia ever a part of Croatia,
or is there another town by that name in Croatia, but
just too small to appear on any atlases or online maps?
My mother in law says that her dad came from Kostel,
and that it was about 30 miles from Zagreb. The Kostel,
Slovenia is quite a bit further away than that (about
100 mi.) Her maiden name is Kostelac, which, I guess
means that they were from Kostel! (?) Her mothers maiden
name was Mauzer, which has proven to be very rare (at
least in the US)
Thank You |

I am looking for my grandmother's brother: Imre Kovacs,
and sister: Gizella (Kovacs) Basich.
As I know, in 1950, Imre Kovacs was living around Belgrad.
He was born after 1901. Gizella (Kovacs) Basich became
a widow after WorldWar, and emigrated (though an Italian
Camp) to Australia (1945-49) with her daughter (Buba
Or Baba) and son Imre Basich.
Gizella (Kovacs) Basich could be 83-90 years old and
Imre Basich about 63-68. My grandmother, Margit Terez
Kovacs, was born on October 27, 1904, in Subotice. Married
my grandfather Jeno Sahin, and had a daughter, Maria,
in 1927. The marriage ended, and my grandmother emigrated
to England where she married Bosko Cikiriz.
She died around 1950 - 51. I do not know when and how
she died.
Bosko Cikiriz died on September 14, 1973, in Birch Hill
Hospital, Wardle, Lancashire, England. I found out from
the Brittish Red Cross, that Bosko Cikiriz's brother,
Dusan Cikiriz contacted the Red Cross in 1975 abot his
brother.
Dusan Cikiriz's address was: Flatina Kock, Backa, Yugoslavia.
My grandmother's mother name was Regina Santa (born
November 19, 1875) and father's name was Lorinc Kovacs
(born on August 9, 1874). They married in Obecse, August
4, 1900.
I am searching for my relatives for 30 years. If anybody
has any information, please contact me at Khajni@cs.com
