...Bolanca; Basetic

Posted by: Sarah Mueller on October 6, 2002 - Bolanca, Makelja, Basetic

Name 1: Bolanca; Basetic
Name 2: Makelja
Location: Primosten, Sibenik

My Grandfather Anton Emilio Bolanca, born Sibenik in 1877, and his brother Leo Bolanca, born Pula in 1883 immigrated to the US in 1898 and 1907, where they changed their surname to Basetic. Name change is believed to be result of desire to protect family in Croatia.

GF, Anton was Croatian language newspaper publisher who was very political, pro-Croatia, anti-Yugoslavia, and murdered in 1921. Their father was Giovanni, a banker from Primosten. Their mother, was Ana Makelja.

My Grandfather's other siblings were Vincenzo, Hirato (sp?), Carla Giovanna, and Girabonna (sp?). There is no evidence these siblings ever left Croatia.

Would like any information about my Grandfather and/or his family. Would also welcome any opportunity to establish contact with any family members currently living in Croatia.

...Bosiljevac; Bosilevac

Posted by: Diane Bosilevac on April 13, 2002

Name 1: John Bosiljevac
Name 2: Ana Frankovic (wife of John Bosiljevac)
Location: Zavrsje; Austria / Croatia

Believe John and Ana came from Zavrsje in 1886 or 1896. They had three children - two survived - Joseph b 2-03-03 and James Patrick (John)b 6-13-1904. Eventually settled in Kansas City, Kansas. The head of the family, John had a brother Matt who ended up in Omaha, Nebraska.

This is the one area of my family tree in which I have the least and most inaccurate information. Unfortuntely it is the most important to me since I share the same name.
Please e-mail with any information.

Name 1: Joseph/ Jozo/ Guiseppe Bozovich
Name 2: Anna Antica
Location: Croatia

I am looking for information about my ggfather. JOSEPH BOZOVICH.
The information I have is he was born in 1887 in Austria/Croatia. His parents are listed as GEORGE and MARY BOZOVICH on their marriage records kept at St. Anthony's Croatian Church in Los Angeles. He married ANNA ANTICA (born in Croatia 1890) and her parents are NICOLA ANTICA and ANDRINA FULMISI.

Joseph Bozovich died on May 17, 1919 in Los Angeles, California. According to information I received from the National Croatian Society. Joseph Bozovich had two brothers who were 24 and 28 in January 1913 and his parents were 70 (father) 60 (mother) the same year.
I hope this helps
